I grew up on the far outskirts of Cleveland, OH in a post-industrial city on Lake Erie, Lorain. I began playing music in 5th grade, and around seventh grade picked up a guitar, which I've played ever since. In 2002, I left my hometown with a scholarship to study music composition at Ohio University. I finished OU in 2006 after changing my program to audio recording and production.
The woods, the dirt, speak to me spiritually, or rather, they are a spiritual expression for me, and so wild images appear in my lyrics. For about ten years after graduating college, I bumbled about the Appalachian woods with a guitar or banjo, finding adventure in every hollow or hilltop, and recording my life history in song, as a modern troubadour. The woods were sacred, so I walked barefoot. I cultivated friendships with trees. I tried to talk to the birds. I watched the clouds and was humbled. I ate wild fruit. In about 2012, I moved to NC, and spent ten years there studying the Piedmont forests, the coastal shore, the ancient mountains. In Chapel Hill, I began recording music again, and have let that passion consume me ever since.
Since Autumn of 2020, I reside in Cincinnati, OH. I find myself playing the violin most often and, most recently, showing my daughter how to play it, too. I find joy in acts of creation, and I still long to feel the cool Earth on my bare feet.
